Leadership

Leading with Empathy, Clarity, and Purpose.

Leadership isn’t about a title. It’s about how you show up for your team, your stakeholders, and your users. From my earliest days at a startup to leading a UX department, I’ve practiced a form of leadership rooted in empathy, accountability, and practical action.

From Conflict to Collaboration

I believe leadership can (and should) be practiced from any seat at the table. Strong leadership means inviting every voice into the conversation, not just the loudest. I facilitate candid conversations that turn tension into direction and turn competing perspectives into shared plans.

Growing and advocating for a UX department meant that I had to redefine how our agency worked across silos. This meant:

My name is Jonathan but everywhere I go, people end up calling me JC. It's like an alter-ego that came with mildly interesting superpowers like arriving at my destination exactly when the song ends and being cautiously optimistic about everything.

Over the years, I’ve worn just about every hat there is across user research, product management, omni-channel digital strategy, SEO, educational games, front-end development, digital marketing, and enterprise-level website administration. This makes it easier to collaborate with almost anyone because the odds are that I've sat in their seat and understand where they're coming from.

Delivering over 100 “UX Minute” micro-lessons during all-staff meetings.

This wasn’t just education. It was advocacy to reinforce UX as a strategic function rather than an add-on service. The result? Stronger projects, clearer stakeholder alignment, and a team culture that focused its attention on users and customers.
